Hi, I’m Jill Lawrence and I am an analogue collage artist. There is an abundance of old magazines and photography books available at second hand shops. These wonderful resources are begging to be put to good use rather than pitched to the recycle bin or worse, a landfill. Collage is a great way to repurpose these wonderful records of our culture, our politics and the popular esthetic of our time. They provide great inspiration and endless possibilities.
I escape into collage and get lost for hours cutting and arranging pieces. It is always exciting to take familiar pictures and re-imagine them into a surreal work that is loosely related to the original. The thought, feeling, idea or statement made in the finished result says something new. Collage has a language of its own in this way.
I am an active participant in Collage Workshops at Gallery Arcturus in Toronto. I also have completed works available to be viewed at The Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project in Brooklyn, New York. I am looking forward to curating a show of my collection at a gallery in the near future.

Title: The Scrapbook – incomplete
I find the deepest satisfaction when a piece is inspired by someone I know and adore. I just love, love, love this man and his life. When I worked as his Assistant I was surrounded by beautiful art and items of pure luxury. This work is near completion and is a dedication to him and his wonderful life.
